When a 4th Generation Tablo app runs into input it doesn't understand, you may encounter an 'unknown error'. Usually, this is a rare occurrence, however, it can potentially prevent you from setting up or watching content from your Tablo.
When you run into an ‘unknown error’, take these troubleshooting steps:
- Force Your Tablo App to Restart
- Soft Reset Your Tablo
- Delete Your Tablo App and Reinstall It
- Clear Your Viewing Device's Cache
- Don't Factory Reset, Contact Support
Force Your Tablo App to Restart
Often, restarting the Tablo app is all it takes to get past an ‘unknown error’. Force quitting your app and restarting will clear out what the Tablo was working on when it was confused, allowing it to launch again with no errors.
Soft Reset Your Tablo
The ‘unknown error’ may be caused by bad data stuck in your Tablo. A good way to clear it out is with a soft reset. To do so, quickly press the reset button and let go. Do not hold the button for more than a second, as doing so may factory reset your Tablo.
As it resets, your Tablo's LED will flash quickly for a few seconds and then become solid when it's done rebooting.
Delete Your Tablo App and Reinstall It
If the two steps above fail, it's possible that deleting the Tablo app itself and reinstalling it will clear the bad data
Deleting the Tablo app will not delete your recordings, schedule or favorites, as those are safely stored on your Tablo.
Clear Your Viewing Device's Cache
A cache is a collection of data that apps and hardware hold for easy reference to improve performance. However, bad data can hide in a cache and cause an ‘unknown error’.
So, if you are still encountering an error, see here on how to clear your Tablo TV apps cache.
Don't worry about your device slowing down because of an emptied cache, as the cache will automatically rebuild with good data.
