Our team was made aware of an issue caused by the Roku OS 14 update which was released in late September 2024. On some Roku models, this update causes OTA (over-the-air) channels to become unplayable. When a channel is selected, our app returns to the Live TV grid. In some rare instances, the OTA channel may play without audio.
With Roku OS 14, we believe the Roku player software now sometimes refuses to pass through audio even when the Roku device is connected to a television capable of decoding AC3 Surround Sound audio. When this is encountered, it restarts the app.
We are currently working on both a short-term and long-term fix. For details, go here.
In the meantime, try...
4th Generation Tablo Workaround
The following 4th Generation Tablo workaround may resolve the issue, depending on your Roku model:
- In SETTINGS for the Roku device itself (not the Tablo Roku app), navigate to: AUDIO -> DIGITAL OUTPUT FORMAT -> CUSTOM.
- Make sure DOLBY DIGITAL is selected for the DOLBY section - leave the DTS setting disabled.
- Return to your Tablo app and try playing an OTA channel again.
Please note these settings are not identical across all Roku models and results will vary depending on the Roku device.
If the above does not resolve the issue, attempt the same steps but instead of CUSTOM select STEREO. This may resolve the problem.
In some cases, these options will resolve the OTA video issue but the channels will not have audio.
Legacy Workaround
Our Legacy Tablo DVRs already have a surround sound setting. Disabling it should resolve the issue as noted here.
We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience and appreciate your patience while our team works towards a resolution.
