Tablo firmware 2.2.58 enables owners of eligible legacy Tablo DVRs to access their devices via 4th Generation Tablo apps.
It provides more choices for using and accessing your Tablo moving forward.
If you’d like to explore those options, check out this quiz or keep reading for more details.
Updating your legacy Tablo’s firmware will not prevent you from accessing your Tablo through the legacy Tablo apps you use today or alter the features available to you within legacy apps.
However, many of the underlying technologies used by legacy Tablo apps and services are becoming obsolete and are no longer maintainable. This is why we are discontinuing support for all legacy Tablo apps on September 1st, 2026. After September 1st, you can continue to use legacy Tablo apps as long as those apps remain functional.
Legacy Transition Options
- Exclusively Use 4th Generation Apps
- Use Both 4th Generation and Legacy Tablo Apps
- Continue to Use Legacy Apps Exclusively
Exclusively Use 4th Generation Apps
When you choose to exclusively use 4th Generation Tablo apps to access your legacy Tablo device, you’ll be able to enjoy the following features and benefits with no subscription required:
- 14 rolling days of TV guide data
- All DVR scheduling features, including series recording
- Access to an additional 60+ free internet-based streaming channels (US Only)
- Ongoing app updates
- And much more
Your over-the-air channel lineup, completed recordings, recording schedules and settings created via legacy Tablo apps will be maintained.
However, 4th Generation Tablo apps do not offer support for:
If you would like to maintain access to features not available via 4th Generation Tablo apps, you can continue to use legacy Tablo apps as well as the newer apps after the transition. However, if you delete a legacy Tablo app after September 1st, you won’t be able to re-download the app or add it to any additional compatible devices.
4th Generation Tablo apps also do not support managing and creating manual recording schedules. Upcoming manual recordings created via legacy apps can be played and seen within the Coming Soon screen of 4th Generation Tablo apps, but all other completed manual recordings and all schedules will be inaccessible via 4th Generation Tablo apps.
If you plan to use 4th Generation Tablo apps exclusively, it is recommended to delete existing manual recording schedules via a legacy app. Then you can replace them with episode or series recording schedules using 4th Generation Tablo apps, where possible.
4th Generation Tablo apps also do not allow editing of the Surround Sound setting for your legacy Tablo device.
Use Both 4th Generation and Legacy Tablo Apps
Once you’ve completed the legacy transition steps with your eligible Tablo device, you can access it via both legacy and 4th Generation Tablo apps. Using both sets of apps will not cause any problems or conflicts.
By choosing to continue using both sets of Tablo apps, you’ll have access to all the benefits of the new 4th Generation Tablo apps while maintaining access to the features available only on legacy Tablo apps like Tablo Connect. Switching between the two apps is as easy as selecting the desired version on your device.
However, features of legacy Tablo apps that require an active TV guide data service or Premium Service subscriptions will continue to require active subscription(s) to access.
Continue to Use Legacy Apps Exclusively
We realize that change can be hard, which is why the Legacy Transition won’t prevent you from using the legacy apps you know and love or change the features available within them.
However, we are discontinuing support for all legacy Tablo apps on September 1st, 2026. After September 1st, you can continue to use legacy Tablo apps as long as those apps remain functional.
Before support for legacy Tablo apps officially ends on September 1st, there is a risk that additional app platforms may delist legacy Tablo apps from stores or that apps may develop fatal bugs.
However, we will not deliberately break legacy Tablo apps or proactively remove them from app stores before September 1st, 2026.
After that date, legacy Tablo apps previously downloaded to your smart TVs, streaming and mobile devices will remain accessible. If you delete a legacy Tablo app after September 1st, you won’t be able to re-download the app or add it to any additional compatible devices.
