Tablo’s Legacy Transition Program is designed for owners of legacy network-connected Tablo devices to access and manage those DVRs via newer 4th Generation Tablo apps.
This WILL NOT prevent you from accessing your Tablo through the legacy Tablo apps you use today.
Enabling the legacy transition requires a slightly different process if you also own a 4th Generation Tablo.
I Only Have a Legacy Tablo Device
STEP 1 - Update Firmware
Using a legacy Tablo app, update the firmware on your legacy Tablo device to version 2.2.60
Users running firmware versions older than 2.2.58 will need to contact support for assistance.
STEP 2 - Download the 4th Gen App
Download the 4th Generation Tablo app (dark blue) on your smartphone or tablet.
The next steps of the process are not available via legacy Tablo apps.
STEP 3 - Create Account
Create a NEW account using the 4th Generation Tablo app by selecting I'M NEW TO TABLO. You can reuse the same username and password from your legacy Tablo subscription account, but your credentials won’t be recognized automatically.
STEP 4 - Setup
Once you've verified your new 4th Generation Tablo account, you will be directed to a shortened setup process, including a channel scan, to add your legacy Tablo device to your account.
You do not need to disconnect your external hard drive during this setup. If the app asks you do to so, you may ignore it.
During the channel scan portion of the process, ensure you place checkmarks next to the free streaming channels you'd like to add to your lineup.
STEP 5 - Connect Your Devices
Finally, download the 4th Generation Tablo apps on your smart TVs, streaming devices and other compatible hardware.
If your smart TV or streaming device is on the same network, the apps should find and connect to your legacy Tablo automatically.
There’s no need to delete your legacy Tablo apps now, but doing so will not affect your recordings or schedules.
Once you complete these steps, you can access your legacy Tablo device via either the 4th Generation or legacy Tablo apps. For more information on your options moving forward, click here.
I Have Both 4th Generation and Legacy Tablo Devices
If you've previously set up a 4th Generation Tablo device, you must still update your legacy device's firmware to 2.2.60 (See STEP 1), but you can skip creating an account.
If you are logged in, go to PROFILE (in the top right corner of the mobile app), then select ADD NEW Tablo and you should see your legacy Tablo device listed.
If you don't see your legacy Tablo device listed, select SIGN OUT. When you sign back in, both your 4th Generation Tablo and your legacy Tablo device should be listed in the found devices.
Select your legacy Tablo device and follow the prompts.

Do I need to update my firmware or participate in the transition if I don’t plan to use 4th Gen Tablo apps?
No, but you should anyway. While Tablo firmware updates are always optional, we encourage owners of network-connected legacy Tablo devices to update their firmware even if they never plan to use 4th Generation apps.
There are many other bug fixes and performance improvements within the 2.2.60 firmware beyond the ability to use 4th Generation Tablo apps. -
Why aren't my legacy Tablo account login credentials working on the 4th Generation Tablo app?
Legacy Tablo subscription account portal credentials will not be recognized since there is a different account system for 4th Generation Tablo apps. As part of the legacy transition for older Tablo devices, you must create a NEW account using the 4th Generation Tablo app on your smartphone or tablet by selecting 'I'M NEW TO TABLO'.
Only those who previously set up a 4th Generation Tablo device should select 'I HAVE A TABLO ACCOUNT' when logging into the 4th Generation app. Those who are already logged into an existing 4th Generation account should select the profile icon in the top right of the app and then select ADD NEW TABLO.
If you don't see your legacy Tablo device listed, select SIGN OUT. When you sign back in, both your 4th Generation Tablo and your legacy Tablo device should be listed in the found devices.
Select your legacy Tablo device and follow the prompts.
-
Can I still use legacy Tablo apps after the firmware update?
Yes! Tablo’s legacy transition will not prevent you from accessing your Tablo through the legacy Tablo apps you use today. It simply provides you with more choices for using and accessing your Tablo moving forward.
For example, you can use 4th Generation Tablo apps at home, but rely on legacy Tablo apps for out-of-home viewing via Tablo Connect, as long as you also have a TV guide data service subscription.
-
How do I know if I'm using the correct Tablo app?
Legacy Tablo apps have a light blue and orange color scheme. 4th Generation Tablo apps have a dark blue color scheme.
Until you've completed the legacy transition process, you will not be able to access your Tablo via 4th Generation apps.
-
Will I have access to features like Automatic Commercial Skip and Tablo Connect via 4th Gen Tablo apps?
Features like Automatic Commercial Skip and Tablo Connect will continue to be available via legacy Tablo apps for those with active TV guide data and Premium Service subscriptions.
These features are not available via 4th Generation Tablo apps, regardless of your subscription status.
-
Will I be able to access free streaming content through legacy Tablo apps?
No. Access to free streaming channel content, both live and recorded, is limited to 4th Generation Tablo apps.
-
Can I access recordings scheduled or created with legacy apps via 4th Generation apps?
Yes! Most recordings previously scheduled or recorded via legacy Tablo apps will be visible, playable and manageable via 4th Generation Tablo apps.
The exception is manual recordings. Manual recording schedules will continue to function and create new recordings.
However, only manual recordings completed within the previous two weeks will be viewable and playable via 4th Generation Tablo apps (within the Latest screen). Older manual recordings and editing of manual recording schedules will not be available via 4th Generation apps at this time. Those functions will continue to be available via legacy Tablo apps.
-
Should I delete the legacy Tablo app from my devices?
If you plan to switch fully to 4th Generation Tablo apps after completing the transition steps, you can delete legacy Tablo apps from your devices.
This will not delete any recordings or settings from your Tablo device.
However, there are no issues with keeping both legacy and 4th Generation Tablo apps installed on your devices if you plan to use both sets of apps moving forward.
-
I don't see any of the free streaming channels on 4th Generation Tablo apps after completing the Legacy Transition. Why is that?
Free streaming channels will not be auto-selected during channel scans on 4th Generation apps for legacy Tablo devices. To add streaming channels to your lineup, go to SETTINGS > GUIDE > CHANNEL LINEUP and select (by adding a checkmark) the free streaming channels you're interested in. Then hit SAVE.
-
Why are some free streaming channels not available using 4th Generation apps with legacy Tablo devices?
Legacy Tablo devices cannot access or display free streaming channels that use HTTPS technology. For this reason, the lineup of free streaming channels available to legacy Tablo device users will be different than those available to 4th Generation device users.
Click here for a list of current free streaming channels available for each type of Tablo device.
-
Why does my Tablo seem slower after adding the free streaming channels during the legacy transition?
Legacy Tablo models don't have the same processing power as newer 4th Generation Tablo models, and may experience slowdowns or overall performance issues when your channel lineup includes more than 100 channels. Editing your channel lineup (SETTINGS > GUIDE CHANNEL LINEUP) to remove channels you don't watch regularly can help.
-
I'm in Canada. Can I still use 4th Generation Tablo apps?
While Canadian customers will not be able to access free streaming channels via 4th Generation Tablo apps, they can still use the new apps to watch, pause, record and stream over-the-air TV content.
