Why Does My Selected Live Channel Stop Playing?

If you watch TV live, your Tablo will continue to play that channel as long as your Tablo app is on. Thanks to this, you can curl up to your favorite lineup of shows, or a movie marathon, with no need to touch your remote.

However, from time to time, you may get removed from the Live TV stream and returned to the live grid.

Here's why:

You've Been Watching an In-Progress Recording

When you start a recording, it's assigned to one of your Tablo's tuners. When you watch the in-progress recording, the tuner's primary responsibility remains recording. When it finishes, it frees itself for other tasks. This returns you back to the guide.

Your Tuner is Required for Recording

Recording takes priority over live TV. If you're watching live TV and the tuner you're using is the only one available for recording, you'll be returned back to the guide. Should you go back to your channel you'll receive a playback failed error. To clear this you'll need to free up a tuner by stopping one of the current in-progress recordings.

A TV Reception Issue Kicks You Out of the Live Grid

A TV reception issue may return you out of the live grid. When this happens you'll get a playback failed error. You can try viewing the channel again but if that fails, you should troubleshoot accordingly.
