Once you have enabled 5.1 Surround sound on your Tablo, you may see error messages via Tablo's Roku channel if your setup does not meet the requirements for 5.1 Surround Sound pass-through.
If you see:
"Your Roku is not connected to a device that supports Surround Sound. In order to receive audio you must disable Surround Sound in the Tablo Settings screen."
One (or both) of these things has occurred:
- Your Roku is connected to a TV that is not capable of playing Surround Sound content, or the settings on that television have not been adjusted to enable Surround Sound pass-through.
If your television is an older model, it may indeed not have that capability. However, reviewing the audio settings on your television may reveal options for Surround Sound, or Dolby sound options which may need to be enabled.
AND/OR - The settings on your Roku device (HOME > SETTINGS > AUDIO >) may not be correct.
For more information on choosing the correct 5.1 Surround Sound audio settings for your Roku, visit their Knowledge Base.
If indeed your TV does not support pass-through of 5.1 Surround Sound, but you had enabled then later disabled Surround Sound on your Tablo you may see:
"This program was recorded in Surround Sound, which is not supported by your device."
Tablo recordings are created with a singular audio track - either stereo or Surround Sound.
It is not possible to change the audio track of previously created recordings, so unfortunately this recording will not be playable on unsupported TV setups.
