NOTE - Channel scan instructions for legacy Tablo devices can be found here

When you first set your Tablo up, the Tablo app will walk you through running your very first channel scan.

But there may be other times when a new channel scan is needed including:

  • When you re-position your antenna due to reception issues
  • If a new station becomes available in your area
  • To get the most up-to-date information regarding signal strength

How to Run a New Channel Scan

To run a new channel scan on your 4th generation Tablo, you must first connect to your Tablo using the Tablo app on iOS, Android, Roku, Fire TV, or Android TV and navigate to the SETTINGS screen.

Next, scroll down until you find the GUIDE OPTIONS section.

Select CHANNEL LINEUP to view the list of the channels in your current lineup.

To begin a new channel scan, select the RESCAN CHANNELS button, and the scan will begin.

When the scan is complete, there will be two types of channels listed in the lineup: over-the-air TV channels from your antenna and free streaming channels built into the Tablo.

Antenna TV channels will be at the top of the list and include a channel number, the resolution in which the channel is broadcast (1080i, 720p, or 480i), as well as general signal strength details.

Four green dots = excellent signal strength. Three yellow dots = acceptable signal strength. 1 red dot = poor signal strength.

You can see the difference between the channel types below:

You may notice some channels will be automatically selected.

Tablo will, by default, choose the high-definition (HD) version of a channel over its standard definition (SD) counterpart. Tablo will also deselect any channel that it identifies as having problematic reception.

At this time you can select or deselect channels that you would like to appear in your guide and therefore be able to watch live or record.

When you've finished selecting the channels you want in your guide, select the SAVE AND CONTINUE button to finish the process.

Saving your scan is essential, even if you are not adding or deleting any channels from your lineup as invisible channel details from the broadcaster can occasionally change.

When you've saved your most recent scan, you will be returned to the SETTINGS page, and your guide will update. It can take up to an hour for the guide to finish updating.

We recommend running a new channel scan once every 3 months.
